The Plitvice Lakes are one of the most famous and most beautiful Croatian symbols: what Dubrovnik represents for cultural heritage, the Plitvice Lakes represent for the natural heritage. The Plitvice Lakes are also the biggest and the oldest Croatian National Park and the only one on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The area of National Park consists of the sequence of 16 stepwise aligned larger and several smaller lakes, separated from each other by the calcite barriers where the beautiful waterfalls are created. The highest lake, called Prošćansko, is situated at 639 meters above sea level, and the lowest, called Novakovića-brod, at 503 meters. The special attraction is impressive 78 meters high Veliki slap (The Large Waterfall).
Spring is that time of year when the nature is awakening. Snowmelt enriches the streams and lakes. You should not miss the scene of rich waterfalls and lakes full of different sorts of fish.
